Yes, you can. Many UGC-approved universities in India now offer PhD admission through their own entrance exams or direct admission routes even if you haven’t qualified NET or JRF.

This flexibility was introduced under the UGC PhD Regulations 2022, which allows universities to admit candidates via internal entrance tests or interviews.

What Does “PhD Without NET or JRF” Mean?

UGC allows universities to conduct their own PhD entrance tests or offer direct admissions based on merit or M.Phil qualifications. So, “without NET/JRF” simply means you can apply through alternative routes approved by the university.
